KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On Wednesday, March 4, the Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 11-2 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
It is the 10th win of the season for Tennessee as their record moves to 10-3 overall this season.
Freshman starting pitcher Taylor Tracey, Blake Grimmer, and Blaine Brown stood out for Tennessee in their win over Oakland.
Ariel Antigua hit his first career home run as well.
Taylor Tracey with seven strikeouts in three innings against Oakland
Tracey made his first start of his career for the Tennessee Volunteers against the Golden Grizzlies.
In three innings of work, he had seven strikeouts while allowing no hits and no runs. Tracey faced nine batters and retired all of them.
Tennessee head coach Josh Elander talked about Tracey after his start for the Volunteers.
“He was really good,” Elander said. “He attacked the strike zone very often tonight…Originally, he was going to go two innings, but I decided to give him one more.”
Tracey is a freshman from Austin, Texas. According to Perfect Game, he was a top ten player from the state of Texas and a top 90 player nationally in the 2025 high school class.
Blake Grimmer and Blaine Brown with Big Hitting Games for Tennessee
Blake Grimmer and Blaine Brown had big hitting days for Tennessee in their win over Oakland.
Grimmer led Tennessee with three hits and had two RBIs. Two of his hits were doubles. The game against the Golden Grizzlies was Grimmer’s debut in the starting lineup.
Elander talked about Grimmer after the win against Oakland.
“He has maturity and is a guy who knows how to have success,” Elander said. “It is good to see him healthy again.”
Brown had two hits and two RBIs for Tennessee against Oakland. One of his hits was a home run that extended the Volunteers’ lead in the fourth inning.

The home run for Brown was his fifth of the season and made him Tennessee’s home run leader this season.
Ariel Antigua hits his first career home run
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Antigua hit his first career home run for Tennessee.
It was a three-run home run into the left field porches that extended Tennessee’s lead out to 11-2.
Elander talked about the career milestone for the junior infielder.
“I was pretty much rooting for him as a fan,” Elander said, regarding Antigua’s home run. “He had a tremendous fall for us. I think he tries to do a little too much sometimes. However, that was a step in the right direction.”

The Tennessee Volunteers will play the Wright State Raiders on Friday, March 6, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
The first pitch is at 6:30 p.m. EST.
