Texas A&M right-handed pitcher Aiden Sims is out this weekend as the Aggies play the Mississippi State Bulldogs in College Station. The news came from TexAgs’ Richard Zane, who spoke with Texas A&M head coach Michael Earley this morning.
Earley told the media that Sims was experiencing tightness and needed some rest.
He added, “We need to make sure that he is ready to go for the long haul.”
Sims is coming off a start against the Ole Miss Rebels, where he pitched three innings. He had five strikeouts and gave up three earned runs.
Earley also announced that his starters for the second and third games against Mississippi State are still to be determined. Ethan Darden will start on Thursday for Texas A&M.
Sims in 2026 with Texas A&M
In 2026, Sims has a 3.84 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 68 innings of work. He has been a solid second-day starter in the Aggies’ weekend rotation this season. Sims has an 8-1 record this season on the mound as well.
Sims has some big and notable starts in 2026. On April 3 against Vanderbilt, he had eight strikeouts in seven innings of shutout baseball. The Commodores were only able to record three hits while Sims was on the mound.
On April 18, Sims had another great start against the LSU Tigers. In seven innings of work, he had six strikeouts and only allowed two earned runs.
Sims’ season-high for strikeouts came during a seven-inning start against the Penn Quakers on February 22. He only allowed one earend run during that appearance.
Up next for the Aggies
The Texas A&M Aggies have a 37-12 overall record and are 16-10 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. Their next game against Mississippi State at Blue Bell Park is at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 14.
This upcoming series against the Bulldogs holds big national seed implications for Texas A&M. According to D1 Baseball’s latest NCAA Tournament projections, the Aggies are the number eight national seed heading into the final weekend of play.
A great result in this weekend’s series should shore up a national seed spot for Texas A&M heading into the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala.
