On Thursday, March 19, Texas A&M head coach Michael Earley announced that right-handed pitcher Josh Stewart will be out for the remainder of the 2026 college baseball season.
Stewart suffered the season-ending injury during the Aggies’ recent weekend series on the road against the Oklahoma Sooners.
According to On3’s Thomas Goldkamp, Stewart exited the Friday night matchup against Oklahoma after grabbing his arm in pain during warmups.
It is the second straight season that Texas A&M has lost Stewart for the season due to an injury. In the past two seasons combined, he has faced a total of 24 batters.
In 2026, Stewart had a 1.42 ERA in 6 ⅓ innings of work. Over that same stretch, he had 10 strikeouts and recorded a save on March 3 against the Incarnate Word Cardinals.
Stewart and his big role during Texas A&M’s historic 2024 season
Before his injury-plagued 2025 and 2026 seasons, Stewart broke out hugely during the 2024 college baseball season.
He had a 4.26 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 31 ⅔ innings of work. He was heavily used out of the bullpen for Texas A&M during a year when they played in the national championship series against the Tennessee Volunteers in Omaha.
During the College World Series that season, Stewart had a 3.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts in nine innings of work.
Texas A&M Pitching Losses
Stewart is not the only Texas A&M pitcher who is done for the season. Southpaw Caden McCoy is also out for the year as he needed Tommy John surgery. That announcement came back in January, prior to the 2026 college baseball season starting.
Up next for the Aggies
The Texas A&M Aggies have a 17-3 overall record this season. They are ranked 23rd overall in the country according to D1 Baseball’s latest top 25 rankings.
Their next game is on Friday, March 20, against the Georgia Bulldogs. That game is at Blue Bell Park in College Station, and the first pitch is at 7 p.m. EST.
