The Texas Longhorns got bad news on Monday, as star outfielder Max Belyeu will be out for the remainder of the 2025 college baseball season.
The junior from Aledo, Texas, is suffering from a thumb injury.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Belyeu will be evaluated by the Texas staff on a week-to-week basis.
This season, the Longhorns’ outfielder was putting together great numbers, with a .358 batting average, a .465 on-base percentage, and six home runs. He was one of Texas’ top hitters and a candidate for the Golden Spikes Award.
Belyeu played in just one game for Texas in their last weekend series against the Missouri Tigers. He went 1-for-4 in Friday’s game with a three-run home run. His teammate, Tommy Farmer IV, came in to replace him in the outfield during Saturday’s doubleheader in Columbia, Mo.
The Longhorns are 23-3 overall this season and 8-1 in SEC play after their weekend sweep against Missouri. How head coach Jim Schlossnagle replaces Belyeu in the lineup will be a big story to look at going forward.
Texas has a tough matchup this upcoming weekend against the Georgia Bulldogs, who have arguably the best offense in the country. Being without Belyeu will make this a tougher challenge for the Longhorns.
The Longhorns next game will be on Tuesday, April 1, against the Texas State Bobcats at home at Disch-Falk Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
