The Texas Longhorns will be without shortstop Adrian Rodriguez for 2-3 weeks, according to Orangebloods’ Zachary Symm.
Rodriguez will undergo a minor hand procedure after re-aggravating a previous injury. According to the Austin American-Statesman, the Texas shortstop had been playing through pain during the month of March.
Rodriguez and his career with Texas
This season, Rodriguez is putting together a solid sophomore season with the Longhorns. He has a .271 batting average, 10 doubles, and 18 RBIs.
He had a hit in every game this past weekend when Texas swept Oklahoma in a weekend series at Disch-Falk Field.
In 2025, Rodriguez was a Perfect Game first-team Freshman All-American. He had a .313 batting average, a .410 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and 23 RBIs.
Rodriguez has also been a big-time base-stealing threat for Texas in his career. He has 23 career stolen bases thus far during his time playing in Austin.
Longhorns infield without Rodriguez
With Rodriguez not playing shortstop for the time being, Texas will have to shift the infield around a bit.
The Longhorns’ current third baseman, Temo Becerra, is a likely candidate to take up the position. Becerra has experience playing shortstop dating back to his time with the Stanford Cardinal before he transferred to Texas.
Up next for Texas
The Texas Longhorns have a 23-4 overall record and are 7-2 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. They are the number two team in D1 Baseball’s most recent top 25 rankings. The only team ranked higher than them is UCLA.
The next game for Texas is on Tuesday, March 31, against the Texas State Bobcats. The game is at Disch-Falk Field in Austin, and the first pitch is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Texas defeated Texas State 15-4 back on March 10 when the two teams played in San Marcos.
