Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady has become the face of a new era in college athletics, signing her second seven-figure NIL deal while helping lead the Red Raiders to their first-ever Women’s College World Series championship series appearance.
Texas Tech softball pitcher NiJaree Canady will make at least $1.2 million in her Year 2 deal with the NIL collective The Matador Club, a source tells @On3sports.

The deal, confirmed by her manager Derrick Shelby of Prestige Management and first reported by ESPN and NIL reporter Pete Nakos, ties Canady once again to the Matador Club—Texas Tech’s official NIL collective. A source confirmed the $1 million-plus value to the Associated Press on Friday, ahead of the decisive Game 3 against Texas.

NiJaree Canady’s post-title game interview and highlight coverage:
The timing couldn’t have been more dramatic. Canady had already pitched every inning of Texas Tech’s five WCWS games heading into the finale, helping force a Game 3 with a gritty 4-3 win in front of former Red Raiders star and current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
She gave up five runs in one inning during the title game loss, but her dominant week underscored her value on and off the field.
“NiJa is the most electrifying player in softball,” Shelby said. “She’s box office. This program has taken care of her. Everything she wants from this game, she can get here at Texas Tech.”

Canady first drew national attention when she transferred from Stanford—where she was named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year—after two straight WCWS appearances. The Red Raiders’ bold NIL offer turned heads, and Canady delivered, earning first-team All-American honors for the third year in a row.

Critics have questioned the attention paid to Canady’s earnings, but Tech coach Gerry Glasco defended her.
“I don’t hear this when we’re watching men’s football or basketball,” Glasco told the Associated Press. “It’s almost insulting how often it comes up.”
Despite the loss, Canady finishes the season as the national leader in wins with 34 and is now a two-time million-dollar athlete in college softball—a benchmark in the fast-changing NIL landscape.
