Texas Tech’s Tim Tadlock Feels His Team will be Just Fine After an Extra Innings Loss to Arkansas

ARLINGTON, Texas – On Sunday, February 15, the Texas Tech Red Raiders suffered a 6-5 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the 2026 Shriners Children’s College Showdown.

Texas Tech makes a miraculous ninth-inning comeback, but comes up short in extra innings

After no runs through the first seven innings, the Red Raiders made the game close in the ninth inning.

Losing 5-1 heading into the top of the ninth inning, Texas Tech got four runs and took the lead on Arkansas heading into the bottom frame.

Tracer Lopez had the big base hit that scored two runs and put the Red Raiders up 5-4.

Arkansas second baseman Cam Kozeal hit a solo home run to tie the game back up in the bottom of the ninth inning. From there, the Razorbacks went on to win 6-5 in the 11th inning by way of a sacrifice fly hit by Maika Niu.

Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock recapped the stunning ninth inning that his team put together offensively.

“We created some traffic,” Tadlock told WBN. “Then, we got a huge two-out hit right in the end. I am extremely proud of the guys for competing throughout the day.”

Tadlock talks about pitching versus Arkansas and his Red Raider team moving forward

While talking about the loss against Arkansas, Tadlock seemed hopeful about his team moving forward.

“There were a lot of good things we did today,” the Texas Tech head coach said. “We had a lot of good arms pitch.”

The Red Raiders had seven pitchers appear for them on the mound. Those pitchers gave up a combined four earned runs and struck out 14 hitters combined.

Starting pitcher Connor Mohan led Texas Tech with five strikeouts against the Razorbacks. Relievers Will Jordan and Jesse Rusinek had three strikeouts apiece and allowed just one earned run between them.

Jonny Lowe also had a good showing out of the bullpen with two strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings. Over that same stretch, he allowed no runs and no walks.

Tadlock left one final note as Texas Tech left Arlington.

“This team is going to be just fine.”

Up next for Texas Tech

Texas Tech is still in search of their first win in the 2026 college baseball season. The Red Raiders’ next game is against the UT Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros on Tuesday, February 17.

The game is at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg, Texas, and the first pitch is at 7:30 p.m. EST.
