On Thursday, the Texas Longhorns won the 2025 Southeastern Conference regular season championship.
A 7-4 win over Oklahoma and a loss by Arkansas against Tennessee sealed the deal, with Texas accomplishing this massive feat in the program’s first year in the SEC and in head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s first season in Austin.
Max Belyeu returned from injury in Thursday night’s game against Oklahoma and played a big part in getting Texas the regular season championship. In the ninth inning, he hit a go-ahead three-run home run off the Sooners’ closer Dylan Crooks to put the Longhorns ahead for good.
For the Longhorns, it is the 11th regular-season conference title in the 21st century. Since their first conference title in 1900 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Texas has won 81 regular season conference championships in five different conferences – the SIAA, the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Southwest Conference, the Big 12, and the SEC.
This also allows Texas to clinch the No. 1 overall seed for the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., next week.
Following the conference championship win over the Oklahoma Sooners, the Longhorns now have a 41-10 overall record and are 21-7 in SEC play. The win on the road at L. Dale Mitchell Park was also the 10th true road win this season.
Texas has already topped its win total from a season ago which was 36. Their 21 conference wins as of right now are the most they’ve had in a season since 2010.
Up Next – The Longhorns are continuing their final series of the season in Norman, Okla. against the Sooners.
On Friday, May 16, the first pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
