The Road to Mexicali: Indios de Mayaguez Claim Spot in LBPRC Finals

Indios de Mayaguez 3, Criollos de Caguas 0 – Ronnie Williams allowed two hits and a walk over six shutout innings, striking out six as the Indios de Mayaguez shut out Caguas to take the semifinal series four games to two. Isan Diaz and Anthony Garcia each had RBI singles for the Indios, who will face the Senadores de San Juan for the championship and a berth in the Caribbean Series in a best-of-seven series starting Friday.

Bravos de Margarita (9-5) 1, Cardenales de Lara (10-4) 0 – Alexi Amarista’s third inning single drove in the game’s only run as the Bravos edged the Cardenales, but both teams clinched berths in the LVBP championship series. Jesus Vargas allowed three hits over six scoreless innings for Margarita, walking one and striking out three.

Aguilas del Zulia (6-7) 8, Navegantes de Magallanes (5-9) 2 – Andres Chapparo went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored, and hit his fifth homer of the playoffs to cap off Zulia’s win.

LIDOM

Leones del Escogido (8-4) 10, Estrellas Orientales (5-7) 6 – Jean Segura’s double in the bottom of the first got the Leones a 2-1 lead, and they tacked on five more in the second, getting RBI singles from Jose Siri and Zoilo Almonte, a run on a wild pitch and another when Eric Gonzalez stole home. Socrates Brito went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored for Escogido.

Tigres del Licey (9-3) 1, Aguilas Cibaenas (2-10) 0 – Miguel Andujar’s solo homer in the fourth was the game’s only run as Licey won their ninth game of the round robin. Seven Licey pitchers combined to allow four hits and a walk, and the Aguilas went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. With four games remaining in the 18-game round robin, Licey is a win or a Estrellas Orientales loss from clinching a berth in the LIDOM championship series.

Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico

Charros de Jalisco 12, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 8 – Julian Ornelas hit a two-run homer for Jalisco, and Jack Mayfield added a solo shot for back-to-back dingers in the first to get the Charros a lead early, and they added four more in the second and five more as the game went on to take a 2-1 series lead. Ornelas finished the game 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored, and Mayfield went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Tomateros de Culiacan 4, Caneros de Los Mochis 3 (10 Innings) – Ramon Rios’ 10th inning single drove in Luis Verdugo with the winning run, giving the Tomateros a 2-1 series lead. Stephen Nogosek threw the final 2 2/3 innings for Culiacan, allowing two hits and no runs to earn the win.
