The Marlins’ improbable five-game win streak—featuring a sweep of the Yankees—has pushed them back to .500 for the first time since April. And it’s been led almost entirely by players born outside the United States.
Sandy Alcantara, the Dominican-born ace, started the streak with five shutout innings in St. Louis. While rumors swirled ahead of the trade deadline, Alcantara made it clear he wanted to stay—and the front office listened.
Another Dominican right-hander, Edward Cabrera, was electric in Sunday’s series finale against New York. Cabrera struck out seven over six innings and improved his ERA to 2.32 since early May.

Behind the plate, Agustín Ramírez—also of the Dominican Republic—blasted two home runs in Saturday’s 2-0 win. Acquired from the Yankees last year in the Jazz Chisholm Jr. deal, the 23-year-old has quickly emerged as one of the club’s most valuable young bats.
Jesús Sánchez, the veteran outfielder from the Dominican Republic, delivered a 439-foot homer to beat the Cardinals and added key hits during the Yankees series.
Of Venezuela, Javier Sanoja had his biggest moment Friday night with two home runs in a wild 13-12 walk-off win. The Caracas native added a third blast on the homestand and has continued to produce defensively in center.
Dominican-born Otto Lopez and Bahamas-native Xavier Edwards both had multi-hit games in the streak and helped turn several double plays in the Yankees series. Edwards also tallied five RBIs over five games.
Eury Pérez, another Dominican standout, pitched six scoreless frames Saturday in just his second start since returning from the injured list.
This five-game stretch has reignited the Marlins’ clubhouse and fanbase—and provided a glimpse of what’s possible when the club leans into its international core.
