Tommy White to Make MLB Debut with the Athletics

Former N.C. State and LSU star Tommy White is making his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the Athletics on Friday, July 17. The Athletics are playing the Washington Nationals that day at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, Calif. The game is at 9:40 p.m. ET.

According to MLB Pipeline, White is the seventh-best prospect in the Athletics’ farm system.

White and his college baseball career

White spent three seasons playing college baseball before his professional career. He spent one season with the N.C. State Wolfpack in 2022, and two seasons with the LSU Tigers in 2023 and 2024.

In those three collegiate seasons, White finished with a .355 career batting average, 48 doubles, 75 home runs, and 249 RBIs. He is in the top ten in career home runs in college baseball history.

During the 2023 season, he helped lead LSU to a national championship and finished with 24 home runs and 105 RBIs. The 105 total RBIs were the most from any player in college baseball that season.

White was the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Year in 2022, a first-team All-American (SEC) in 2023, and a National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) second-team All-American in 2024.

The Athletics selected him in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft with the 40th overall pick.

White’s 2026 Minor League Baseball Season

White is in the midst of his third season of Minor League Baseball playing for the Athletics’ Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators. He was assigned to Las Vegas back in April.

Despite spending some time on the seven-day injury list this year, he has put together some solid numbers with the Aviators. In 55 games in Las Vegas, White has a .303 batting average with 12 doubles, nine home runs, and 47 RBIs. He also has an OPS of .834.

White has steadily improved throughout his time in Minor League Baseball. The 2026 season is his best season to date.

Athletics 2026 Season

The Athletics have a 41-55 overall record this season, which puts them in fourth place in the American League West Division. They are eight games back from the Texas Rangers, who are in first place in the division.

The Athletics have also not been playing well. Entering the All-Star break, they are 1-9 in their last ten games.
