At the end of August, left-handed pitcher Logan Schmidt announced his commitment to play for the LSU Tigers. Schmidt is the number one ranked southpaw from California and a top 25 player in the 2026 high school class.
Schmidt detailed the commitment in an interview with World Baseball Network.
“It was a good recruiting process,” Schmidt said. “I just thought LSU is the best place for me. The coaches are awesome, both Jay [Johnson] and Josh [Jordan]. I just felt like going to LSU would be the best place for me to develop as a player and a person.”
Schmidt is a part of LSU’s 2026 high school recruiting class that ranks fourth in the country according to Perfect Game.
The only teams with a better recruiting class than the Tigers in the 2026 cycle are Vanderbilt, Texas, and Tennessee.
LSU’s 2026 class also has the third-most top 100 recruits with eight total. The only teams with more top 100 recruits are Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
When asked about what pitchers Schmidt watches, Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal initially came to mind.
“I watch that guy almost every single one of his starts when I can,” Schmidt said regarding the 2024 American League Cy Young winner. “He’s a competitor on the mound, and I try to idolize my game after him. He goes out there with a mindset to strike everyone out. Every pitch is competitive, and there are no wasted pitches.”
The 2025 Perfect Game All-American is getting ready to play his senior season for the Ganesha Giants in Pomona, Calif.
