Trevor Bauer of the Diablos Rojos has been in great form in 2024 for his club, which leads the Liga Mexicana De Beisbol. Bauer has started 13 games so far for the Diablos and is scheduled for five more starts to close out the season. The 33-year-old former MLB Cy Young winner is in his first season for the Diablos.
A righty known for his extravagant personality and content creation on social media, Bauer has been on a crusade to get back to the MLB. In 2021, soon after signing a 3-year, 102 million-dollar contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Bauer went under investigation for two sexual assault allegations levied against him. He was suspended for two seasons by the MLB and officially released by the Dodgers in January 2023. Both suits were settled in 2023 without financial compensation, and ever since, Bauer has been looking to return to the majors where he believes he belongs.
After being released by the Dodgers, Bauer signed with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of the NPB in March 2023, pitching to a 10–4 record and 2.76 ERA with 130 strikeouts in 19 games. In March 2024, Bauer announced he would pitch six starts for his current team, Diablos Rojo. He signed a contract extension in May to keep him in Mexico City for the remainder of the 2024 season.
The extension has proved fruitful for both sides as Bauer has dominated opposing hitters, and the Diablos have dominated the LMB with a record 16 games better than any other team in the league, 56-16. Accompanied by other former MLB players like Robinson Cano, Lewin Diaz, Franklin Barretto, and Alex Claudio, Bauer has been a shining star from the bump in 2024. Bauer owns a ridiculous 1.78 ERA, .98 WHIP, and 13 K/9 in 81 innings pitched. Bauer was selected as an LPB all-star and was the starting pitcher for the South division in the All-Star Game held on May 26th.
Bauer has five more scheduled starts before the league finishes the regular season, and if he keeps this pace, he could be scheduled for the Mexican League record books. Bauer will pitch Wednesday, July 10: vs Bravos de León, Monday, July 15: at Tigres de Quintana Roo, Saturday, July 20: at El Águila de Veracruz, Thursday, July 25: at Bravos de León and Tuesday, July 30: at Leones de Yucatán.
A staggering 146,859 fans have attended the games he has pitched so far this season, and to no surprise, Trevor Bauer has proved to be a must-watch. In addition to his year stats, he set the league record for strikeouts in a single game on June 21 with 19.
The former Diamondback, Guardian, Red, and Dodger seems to have a lot left in the tank, as seen in the Mexican League. His five starts to close out the season will be a must-watch as the former MLB All-Star Bauer chases his dreams of returning to the Majors while the Diablos chase the title of the Serie del Rey.
