Trevor Bauer and Robinson Cano of the Diablos Rojos del Mexico were recognized by Mexico’s baseball hall of fame,  the Salon de Fama de Beisbol Mexicano, in Monterrey on Sunday.

Each player was presented a plaque by the hall of fame during a ceremony led by Alfredo Harp Helu, the owner of the Diablos Rojos and a patron of baseball across Mexico.

Bauer was recognized for his 19 strikeout performance against the Guerreros de Oaxaca on June 21, while Cano was recognized for leading the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol in batting average, posting a .431 average during the regular season.

“I am very happy and grateful for this, it is truly a great honor and I want to thank Mr. Harp for this great work and for helping me to be here,” said Canó in a press release circulated by the Diablos Rojos. “We know that to belong to a hall of fame, you have to have a very great record, and thank God I was able to win the batting title this year and now be here.”

As part of the event, Bauer donated the baseball used for his 19th strikeout on June 21 to the Salon de Fama. Bauer unhesitatingly donated the ball, saying, “The ball belongs to Mexico, to Mexican baseball. Here, every time a fan comes here, they can see it, and with that I can help baseball and the legacy of this sport grow.”

“You never think that one of your objects is going to stay in the Hall of Fame, so it is a tremendous honor that the ball stays here,” Bauer said in the team’s release. “You never know where baseball will take you.”
