Twins Place Max Kepler On Injured List, Call Up Outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins placed Max Kepler on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with left patellar tendinitis.

Outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. was selected from Triple-A St. Paul to replace Kepler on the 28-man roster.

Kepler missed the entire four-game series against Tampa Bay after being scratched from the lineup on Monday. This marks the second stint on the injured list this season for the 31-year-old outfielder, who missed 21 games in April with a right knee contusion.

Kepler is hitting .253 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs for the Twins, who were in a virtual tie with Kansas City for the American League’s second wild-card spot before Thursday’s games.

Keirsey, 27, was Minnesota’s fourth-round draft pick in 2018. He is being called up to the majors for the first time after hitting .292 with 14 home runs and stealing 36 bases in 103 games at St. Paul.

The Twins transferred left-handed pitcher Kody Funderburk to the 60-day injured list to make room for Keirsey on the 40-man roster.
