Two Tigers Prospects Throw Combined No-Hitter in FCL

On Saturday, June 21, two Detroit Tigers prospects teamed up to throw the organization’s first no-hitter of 2025. Kelvis Salcedo and Bryce Alewine held the Philadelphia Phillies scoreless in the Florida Complex League, winning the game 5-0.

Salcedo started for Detroit. He is 19 years old and has been in the Tigers organization since he was signed in January 2023 out of Santa Barbara, Venezuela. The right-hander struck out the first two batters he faced before walking Francisco Loreto in the top of the first inning. However, he struck out Angel Mata looking one batter later to get out of the inning and found momentum from there.

The only other batter he allowed on base was Isaias Dipre, whom he walked in the top of the fifth inning. Again, he made quick work of the next batter and forced a double play to end the inning. His final stat line for the day was five innings pitched, seven strikeouts, two walks, no hits allowed and no earned runs.

In the top of the sixth, the Tigers called on Alewine to relieve Salcedo and keep the no-hit bid alive. The Tigers’ offense had given Alewine extra run support, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Alewine retired all batters in his first inning of work and stayed in the game for the seventh and final inning. He started the inning by walking Victor Cardoza, but induced two ground balls from the next two batters for a double play and a groundout to win the game for Detroit.

This is the first no-hitter for any Detroit Tigers affiliate this year. The FCL Tigers are 23-13, good for first place in the FCL North Division. While neither pitcher is ranked among the top 30 Tigers prospects according to MLB, both have performed well this season.

Salcedo has a 3-0 record with a 2.39 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings. Alewine has a 2-0 record with a 1.69 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 10 innings.

With Salcedo only 19 and Alewine 20, it may be a couple of years before fans see either at the MLB level. But they will be a fun pair to follow as they rise through the Tigers’ pipeline.
