On Tuesday, the UAB Blazers and Troy Trojans will play at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala. Built in 1910, the ballpark is the oldest existing ballpark in the United States.
The specific game between UAB and Troy is the third annual Rickwood College Classic.
Rickwood Field has a history of hosting neutral-site baseball games. The MLB has played there in observance of Juneteenth.
The venue has also hosted minor league teams, as the Montgomery Biscuits and Birmingham Barons met there for a game in June 2024.
The ballpark was the home field for the Barons until 1988, when they moved to the Hoover Met.
Historically speaking, the “working museum” is famously known for hosting the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues.
This upcoming matchup between UAB and Troy is not the only time college baseball will be played at Rickwood Field this season. The SWAC Tournament will also be played at America’s oldest ballpark from May 21-25.
Troy and UAB’s mid-week matchup on Tuesday, Mar. 18, has a first pitch time scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT.
UAB is looking to bounce back after a series loss to Middle Tennessee. Troy is coming off a series win against Louisiana.
