On Friday, February 27, the USC Trojans defeated the Cal Poly Mustangs 6-0 in 11 innings.
All six of USC’s runs were scored in the top of the 11th inning. The game was tied at zero for the first 10 innings.
The Trojans’ pitching staff stepped up in a big way against Cal Poly as three pitchers combined for an 11-inning shutout. They also allowed just one hit in the entire game.
Edwards, Matson, Velazquez Combine for a Shutout
Mason Edwards got the start on Friday night for USC against Cal Poly. The MLB Pipeline top 100 draft prospect went deep into the game for USC.
Despite the southpaw walking four batters, he went seven innings into the game and struck out 11 Cal Poly hitters. He gave up no runs over that stretch and threw 106 total pitches.
Sax Matson came in and replaced Edwards. He earned the win for the Trojans and threw a total of three innings. Over that stretch, he struck out five hitters and gave up no hits.
Diego Velazquez closed out the game for USC and pitched the final inning. He gave up the only hit Cal Poly had all game and only threw seven pitches.

The USC Trojans have a record of 9-0 this season. Their next game is against the Cal Poly Mustangs on Saturday, February 28.
The game is on the road for the Trojans at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The first pitch is at 6:05 p.m. EST.
