On Saturday, February 14, the USC Trojans threw a combined no-hitter in an 11-0 win over the Pepperdine Waves. The game ended by way of run rule in seven innings.
Grant Govel Strikes Out 10 Pepperdine Hitters
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Grant Govel struck out 10 Pepperdine hitters over six innings. Over that same stretch, he walked only one hitter and hit a batter just once.
It was a big start on the mound to allow USC to build a 6-0 lead as the game headed into the seventh inning.
Once Govel exited, freshman right-hander Cameron Fausset entered the game and closed out the contest.
USC Offensive Standouts in the game against Pepperdine
USC’s 11 runs in the win over the Waves came on 11 hits as a team.
Kevin Takeuchi led the Trojans in hitting with three knocks. He had a double and four RBIs in the win over Pepperdine.
Andrew Lamb and Dean Carpentier both had home runs for USC. Those two players combined for two hits and three RBIs in the big win over the Waves.
Abbrie Covarrubias stood out in the win, recording two hits against Pepperdine. He also led the Trojans in runs with three.
USC’s strong start to the 2026 season
The Trojans are 2-0 to begin the 2026 college baseball season and earned a series win against Pepperdine on opening weekend.
In the first two games of the year, USC outscored the Waves 14-1.
