Vanderbilt Commodores with Three Walk-Offs to Sweep the Tennessee Volunteers

The Vanderbilt Commodores swept the Tennessee Volunteers in their weekend series at Hawkins Field in Nashville.

All three wins for Vanderbilt over Tennessee came on walk-offs. World Baseball Network goes over the three thrilling wins for the Commodores.

All three Vanderbilt walk-offs against Tennessee

On Friday, March 27, Vanderbilt and Tennessee were tied 2-2 at the end of nine innings. Therefore, extra innings had to be played to determine a winner.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Logan Johnstone hit a ball into left field that scored Vanderbilt pinch runner Cade Sears. This led to a 3-2 win for the Commodores to open the series.

On Saturday, March 28, Tennessee and Vanderbilt engaged in a tight-knit battle that went 16 total innings.

The two teams were tied up 5-5 for nine and a half innings until the bottom of the 16th inning.

Mack Whitcomb laid a bunt down that scored his teammate Rustan Rigdon, resulting in a 6-5 win for Vanderbilt. The win on Saturday secured the series victory for the Commodores.

On Sunday, March 29, Vanderbilt entered the ninth inning against Tennessee, losing 15-10.

Whitcomb came through once again and had a base hit that scored two runs, making it a 15-12 game.

Then, Vanderbilt loaded the bases, Tommy Goodin came to the plate and hit a grand slam to walk off the final game of the series. Thus, the Commodores completed a sweep of Tennessee.
