Vanderbilt pitcher Austin Nye will miss the remainder of the 2026 college baseball season, according to the Commodores’ head coach Tim Corbin.
Nye had been out of Vanderbilt’s pitching rotation since late February as he was dealing with an injury related to his biceps.
This season, Nye allowed no earned runs in 10 innings of work. Over that same stretch, he had 13 strikeouts and walked just two opposing hitters.
The sophomore is coming off a 2025 season where he made 15 starts as a freshman. During those 15 starts, he had a 3.55 ERA and 58 strikeouts. Nye was also a Perfect Game first-team Freshman All-American that season and a National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) second-team All-American.
Vanderbilt’s starting rotation moving forward without Nye
The Commodores’ pitching staff will need to undergo a makeover after losing Nye for the season.
Vanderbilt seems set on Friday and Saturday, starting Connor Fennell and Wyatt Nadeau, respectively. The starting pitcher on Sundays has been the big question mark for the Commodores, and Nye is no longer available to fill that spot.
Last Sunday, March 22, freshman right-handed pitcher Tyler Baird started for Vanderbilt in a 17-7 loss to Mississippi State.
In that start, Baird failed to record an out and allowed three hits and five earned runs.
Nate Taylor had been the usual Sunday starter before Baird’s start in Starkville. However, he was moved back into the bullpen before Vanderbilt’s weekend series against Mississippi State.
Vanderbilt currently ranks dead last in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in team ERA at 5.58.
Up next for Vanderbilt
The Vanderbilt Commodores have a 14-12 overall record this season following their 15-5 win over Tennessee Tech on Tuesday. They have a 2-4 record in SEC play with a series win over LSU and a series loss to Mississippi State.
Their next game will be on Friday, March 27, against the Tennessee Volunteers at Hawkins Field in Nashville. The first pitch is at 8 p.m. ET and the game can be watched on ESPNU.
