Following Vanderbilt’s 10-0 win over Tennessee in the SEC Tournament, it was announced that utility man Matthew Polk would put his name into the transfer portal.
The Long Beach, Calif., native has been with Vanderbilt his entire college baseball career, dating back to the 2021 season.
His career stat line includes a .295 batting average, 10 home runs, and 52 RBI. The 2024 season was the best year of his career as he had a .316 batting average and a .372 on-base percentage.
The long-time Commodore veteran was not on the Vanderbilt roster for the 2025 season. However, according to the Tennessean, he was still enrolled at the school.
Nonetheless, Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin had nice things to say about Polk’s meaningfulness to the baseball program.
“Polky is a fixture in our facility,” Corbin said. “He wants to be around the game of baseball all the time. Outstanding worker. Only knows one speed… a great motor and energy for learning and playing the game.”
Polk is a prime target in the portal for schools looking for an experienced veteran. He has talent as well, being a former top 15 high school prospect in California, and was ranked top 150 nationally according to Perfect Game.
