Vanderbilt catcher Colin Barczi hit three home runs for the Commodores in a 5-4 loss against TCU during the 2026 Shriners Children’s College Showdown.
He accounted for three out of the four runs Vanderbilt had in the game. Third baseman Brodie Johnston had a solo home run as well.
The long ball and general hitting were solid for Vanderbilt as they had nine hits as a team despite the loss.
Barczi and his career with Vanderbilt
The 2026 college baseball season is Barczi’s third one playing for the Commodores in Nashville.
In two seasons, he has a .247 batting average, 13 doubles, 13 home runs, and 50 RBIs.
During the 2025 season, he was a very skilled defender with just two errors and a .996 fielding percentage.
What Barczi can provide with continued home run hitting
With three home runs to start the season after just one game, Barczi is well on track to reach double digits in home runs for the first time in his career.
The Commodores had 66 home runs as a team in 2025, which was toward the bottom of the Southeastern Conference.
Improvement in the home run hitting, with the help of players like Barczi, can make Vanderbilt much more of a dynamic offense in 2026.
Up Next for Vanderbilt
After starting the 2026 college baseball season 0-1, the Vanderbilt Commodores will look to get in the win column for the first time this season against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
That game is part of the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The first pitch is at noon EST.
