On Monday, officials from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the city of Richmond, and the Richmond Flying Squirrels met for a ceremonial signing at CarMax Park.
This marked the official inclusion of the VCU baseball program playing their home games at the Flying Squirrels’ ballpark.
The Flying Squirrels are the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

CarMax Park is not just a ballpark, but it is also a new multi-use entertainment venue that is opening in 2026.
Both the Flying Squirrels and Rams used to play in The Diamond, a 9,560-capacity ballpark that has been open since 1985.
In 2025, the VCU Rams finished the season 17-37 overall. They had an Atlantic 10 Conference record of 10-20.
The Rams finished second from last place in the Atlantic 10 standings last season. Only the UMass Minutemen were worse with 14 total wins and seven conference wins.
VCU ended its 2025 season with a weekend series sweep of UMass on the road at Earl Lorden Field in Amherst.
Overall, the Rams had a bit of a letdown season, considering they made the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
That appearance was the third NCAA Tournament berth this decade and the 14th one in program history.
VCU also won its 10th conference tournament title during the 2024 season.
