This streak of first round players began in the 2023 MLB Draft. The first Wake Forest player off the board in that draft was pitcher Rhett Lowder, who was taken with the seventh overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds.
Shortly thereafter, the Milwaukee Brewers took third baseman Brock Wilken with the 18th overall pick.
In the 2024 MLB Draft, Wake Forest had three players selected in the top ten. Pitcher Chase Burns was picked second overall by the Cincinnati Reds. First baseman Nick Kurtz was taken fourth overall by the Athletics, and then Seaver King was taken 10th overall by the Washington Nationals.
In this year’s draft, Wake Forest once again was a prominent school in the first round. Marek Houston and Ethan Conrad were taken in back-to-back selections by the Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs with the 16th and 17th overall picks.
In total, seven different players from Wake Forest were taken in the past three first rounds of the MLB Draft.
In the 2025 MLB Draft, they had six total players selected.
