The Dodgers trounce the A’s in Jack Flaherty’s debut, numerous walk-offs, and a battle between two of the top teams in the AL all took place last night. Here is one quick thing from each MLB game.
Yankees 8 Blue Jays 3
Aaron Judge went deep for his MLB-leading 41st home run of the season to help New York take game two of the series and win their sixth in the last seven. Carlos Rodon picked up his 12th win of the season on an eight strikeout day where he allowed three earned runs.
Cardinals 5 Cubs 4
A short fly that dropped for a single from Nolan Arenado in the eighth scored two and capped off a three-run inning that tied the game. Lars Nootbaar drove in the winning run in the ninth on a sac fly that scored Tommy Pham and led to the Cardinals’ third win in the last four.
Nationals 6 Brewers 4
Washington ended their five-game losing streak thanks to Luis Garcia, who had three hits and was a single away from the cycle. The Brewers tried to rally late but fell short and dropped their third game in the last four. Milwaukee remains first in the NL Central, six games ahead of the Cardinals.
Tigers 6 Royals 5
The Tigers ended a five-game losing streak after completing three separate comebacks. Detroit trailed in the ninth, 10th, and 11th innings before winning the game on a walk-off single from Wenceel Perez after Parker Meadows tripled. The rally ended the Royals’ five-game winning streak.
Pirates 4 Diamondbacks 2
Bryan Reynolds and Joey Bart homered for Pittsburgh, ending the Diamondbacks’ four-game win streak. The Pirates took the second game of the series in a battle between teams in the race for wildcard positioning.
Rangers 7 Red Sox 4
Texas took game two of the series to halt their struggles. Jonah Heim and Leody Taveras hit back-to-back in the fourth inning to lead the charge offensively for the Rangers. The loss puts the Red Sox two and a half games out of the final AL wildcard spot.
Twins 6 White Sox 2
Max Kepler homered in the seventh to break up the tie and help hand the White Sox their 19th straight loss. The Twins, who have won three straight of their own, sit in the second wildcard spot in the AL.
Orioles 7 Guardians 4
Zach Eflin allowed two runs in six and a third to win his second game since becoming an Oriole, and Baltimore ended the Guardians five-game winning streak. After dropping the first two, the Orioles collected 15 hits to take game three of the series.
Rays 6 Astros 1
Josh Lowe homered twice in the game for the second time in his career to help Tampa take game two in Houston. The Astros dropped back to second in the AL West and are four games out of a wildcard spot.
Reds 6 Giants 4
The Reds hit four home runs the day after they were no-hit by Blake Snell to pick up a win in the second game of the series. Hunter Greene allowed just one hit and no runs in six innings and struck out a season-high 11.
Marlins 4 Braves 3
Jesus Sanchez hit a double in the seventh inning to break the 3-3 tie and end Atlanta’s four-game winning streak. The Marlins used six pitchers to slow the Braves’ offense and win their first game at Truist Park this season.
Padres 3 Rockies 2
Martin Perez struck out seven hitters and allowed one run in six innings in his Padres debut. A single from Xander Bogaerts in the seventh inning gave San Diego the lead and ended their five-game losing streak to the Rockies. The Padres have won 10 of 13 since the All-Star break and sit in the second wildcard spot in the NL.
Dodgers 10 A’s 0
Jack Flaherty made his Dodgers debut, striking out seven and allowing zero runs in six innings to end the Dodgers’ three-game skid. Shohei Ohtani stole three bases, taking his total to 31 on the season. Along with Ohtani’s 33 home runs, he is just the fourth Dodgers player to have 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in a season.
Angels 5 Mets 4
Zach Neto hit a three-run go-ahead home run in the seventh for a career-high four RBIs and helped the Angels secure the win. JD Martinez hit his second grand slam in eight games, but New York fell short. They fell half a game back of the last wildcard spot.
Mariners 6 Phillies 5
Seattle extended the Phillies’ losing streak to six games after Mitch Haniger walked with the bases loaded and the Mariners walked off Philadelphia. Beginning in the fifth inning, Seattle rallied from five runs down to keep Seattle in the lead in the AL West.
