The winner of WBN’s International Player of the Week is Eric Filia, an outfielder for Acereros de Monclova in Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.

Filia hit a two-run home run on July 25 against starting pitcher Fernando Olguin in his most recent game against Dorados de Chihuahua. Filia has helped guide Acereros de Monclova to the playoffs for the 12th straight season, the longest active streak in the LMB.

Filia’s numbers this season for Acereros de Monclova are three home runs, 43 RBI, six stolen bases, a .278 batting average, and an OPS of .740 in 302 at-bats. Filia made his LMB debut with Guerreros de Oaxaca in 2023. He was waived and finished out the 2023 season with Acereros de Monclova.

Filia, 32, has had a long journey to the LMB. The Seattle Mariners drafted him in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He was in the Mariners’ farm system for five seasons and made it to their Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, in 2019. He played his last season for them in 2021.

Filia took off the 2022 regular season and played in LIDOM for Aguilas de Cibaenas in the winter of 2021-2022.

Filia’s career MiLB numbers are 16 home runs, 171 RBI, 24 stolen bases, a .314 batting average, and an OPS of .834.

The left-handed hitting Filia also helped Team USA win the silver medal in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, where they lost 2-0 to Team Japan.

Filia’s next game for Acereros de Monclova will be against Charros de Jalisco at 8:30 p.m. ET on July 26.
