The winner of WBN’s International Player of the Week is SGS Landers outfielder Han Yoo-seom in the Korea Baseball Organization. Yoo-seom, 35, hit a huge solo home run against Hanwha Eagles starting pitcher Ryan Weiss to break a scoreless tie in the fifth on September 10 at SSG Landers Field in Incheon, South Korea.
The SSG Landers didn’t look back after his solo shot and won the game 5-0. This was a crucial win that now has them within 2.5 games of the Hanwha Eagles for the fifth and final KBO playoff spot with 12 games left. Yoo-seom is second on the SSG Landers with 22 home runs and third with 81 RBI.
The left-handed hitting Yoo-seom has spent his entire 12-year career with the SSG Landers, who were originally established as the SK Wyverns in 2000. They switched their name to the SSG Landers before the 2021 season. He was drafted in the ninth round of the 2012 KBO draft and has turned out to be a steal for the SSG Landers.
Yoo-seom won the Korean Series with the SK Wyverns in 2018 and was named the Korean Series MVP. They beat the Doosan Bears in six games, and Yoo-seom had a home run in the first game of the series, which was a 7-3 win.
Yoo-seom had the best season of his career in 2018, with 41 home runs, 115 RBI, and four stolen bases. His slash line was .284/.367/.601 in 486 at-bats. In 2017, he had 350 at-bats and set career highs in batting average (.294), on-base percentage (.396), and OPS (.1.010).
His career numbers in the KBO are 195 home runs, 678 RBI, and a slash line of .267/.360/.491 in 3,560 at-bats.
