The 2024 WBSC Premier12 tournament is less than two months away, and tickets in Japan are a hot commodity. According to the WBSC, over 20% of the tickets for the games in Japan have already been sold in just the first week. Tickets will open to the general public on Oct. 1, 2024.
The Japanese baseball community got the first opportunity to purchase tickets in the pre-application period from Sep. 2 to Sep. 8. Then, the booking phase from Sep. 12 to Sep. 16. The opening game on Nov. 13 between Japan and Australia at Vantelin Dome Nagoya has been the primary target for fans buying tickets for thus far. The SuperRound will take place at the Tokyo Dome from Nov. 21 to Nov 24. and will feature the top two teams from Group A and Group B.
The Premier12 tournament features 12 top countries ranked by the WBSC and is organized into two groups labeled Group A and Group B. Group A includes the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Netherlands. Group B includes South Korea, Taiwan, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Australia, and Japan. This year’s tournament will mark the third edition of the Premier12, following tournaments held in 2015 and 2019.
Japan is the defending champions of the Premier12 and one of three host nations alongside Mexico and Taiwan. In the 2019 championship game, they defeated South Korea, the inaugural Premier12 champions of 2015.
The fact that 20% of Japanese tickets have already been sold shows the excitement that the Premier12 is already generating among fans. It will be interesting to see how many people go to the games not only in Japan but in Taiwan and Mexico. The tournament is right around the corner and will be a great display of the top national baseball teams of the world for fans to see.
