Multiple reports indicate that Wei Chuan Dragons pitcher Hsu Jo-Hsi is being pursued by at least two teams in Nippon Professional Baseball’s Pacific League.
Hsu, 25, who had one of the best seasons of his young career in the Chinese Professional Baseball League this year, is reported to be being pursued by the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and the Orix Buffaloes of NPB’s Pacific league according to FTV Sports, as well as several other Taiwanese media outlets.
A post on X by @CPBLStats, an account that posts about the CPBL in English, indicated that another Taiwanese media outlet, Merit Times, reported that Nippon-Ham is preparing to offer Hsu a three-year deal worth close to $5 million.
According to Merit Times, a Pacific League team from Japan's NPB is reportedly preparing to offer Wei Chuan Dragons' 徐若熙 (Hsu Jo-Hsi) a 3-year deal worth 5 million USD.

Hokkaido has two Taiwanese pitchers in Ruei Yang Gu Lin and Sun Yilei, and is apparently quite interested in Hsu. In four seasons with Wei Chuan, Hsu has a 2.42 ERA in 305 innings of work, striking out 349 and walking 70. He made his debut in 2021, making 19 starts and throwing 81 innings and making a big impression when he recorded the first 11 outs of his CPBL career via the strikeout.
He missed the 2022 season and part of 2023 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but made four starts in 2023 and threw 15 1/3 innings with a 1.17 ERA and struck out 18 of the 58 batters he faced, and in November threw a spectacular game in the Taiwan Series against the Rakuten Monkeys, staying perfect for the first 4 1/3 and struck out seven in seven shutout innings as Wei Chuan took Game 6 by the score of 2-0.
In 2024, he threw 94 2/3 innings, the most of his career to that point, posting a 2.47 ERA and a 1.109 WHIP with 113 strikeouts and 29 walks.
Tossing a fastball that touches 98 mph with a lot of implied vertical break that induces ground outs, as well as a changeup and a splitter, Hsu is a pitcher who mixes power with guile and is likely to be on the Chinese Taipei roster at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
With the rumors of interest from teams from NPB and Major League Baseball circling in 2025, Hsu threw 114 innings in 19 starts, posting a 2.05 ERA, 120 strikeouts, and allowed just 49 batters to reach base for a WHIP of 0.807, a number that illustrates his dominance.
