 Nick Martin - World Baseball Network  |    Aug 5th, 2024 11:15am EDT

The White Sox losing streak continued to 20 games, the worst in the majors in 36 years. Here’s everything you missed from yesterday in the MLB.

Giants 8 Reds 2

  • Three Giants homered to help the team take the series against the Reds and move within four and a half games of the last spot in the NL West. Robbie Ray struck out nine Cincinnati hitters and allowed two runs in five innings.

Marlins 7 Braves 0

  • Miami won the final game of the series to split with the Braves. Edward Cabrera struck out eight in five innings to shut down Atlanta. Max Fried pitched for the first time since July 11. He allowed five runs in three and a third innings.

Nationals 4 Brewers 3

  • Luis Garcia homered for the second straight day, and rookie James Wood tripled with the bases loaded to give the Nationals a four-run lead. Milwaukee scored three in the eighth but fell short of the comeback. Washington won the series’ final two games against the NL Central leading Brewers.

Diamondbacks 6 Pirates 5

  • Arizona completed the comeback on a Joc Pederson three-run homer in the seventh inning. Paul Skenes got a no-decision after he took a shutout into the sixth inning before giving up two runs. The Diamondbacks have won four of five and sit a half-game behind the Braves for the top spot in the NL wildcard race.

Orioles 9 Guardians 5

  • Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman drove in five runs and led the charge on offense for Baltimore to win the final game of the series and split with the Guardians. The Orioles collected 15 hits in back-to-back games and moved into a three-way tie for the most wins in the major leagues.

Royals 3 Tigers 2

  • MJ Melendez hit a pinch-hit three-run homer in the ninth inning to give Kansas City the lead and come away with the win. The Royals own the final spot in the AL wildcard race after winning six of their last seven.

Rays 1 Astros 0

  • Five Rays pitchers combined for a three-hitter to shut down Houston and win the series. Brandon Lowe drove in the game’s only run with a double in the third inning. Despite being major sellers at the deadline, Tampa sits five games out of a wildcard spot.

Twins 13 White Sox 7

  • Minnesota scored six runs in the second inning to jump out to an 8-0 and give the White Sox their 20th consecutive loss, the longest in the MLB in 36 years. The Twins sit in the second wildcard spot in the AL, a half-game above division rival Kansas City.

Red Sox 7 Rangers 2

  • Jarret Duran gave Boston the lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run, and the Red Sox rolled to a victory. Wilyer Abreu hit two home runs to help the Red Sox win the series. Boston is two and a half games back of the final wildcard spot.

Angels 3 Mets 2

  • The Angels pitching shut down New York after Kevin Pillar drove in the final Los Angeles run on a sac fly in the third inning. The Halos won the series’ final two games to keep the Mets out of the last NL wildcard spot.

Dodgers 3 A’s 2

  • Kiké Hernandez drove in two runs on a double in the first inning, and Cavan Biggio had an RBI single in the third, and the Dodgers came out on top. Los Angeles won the final two games in Oakland to snap a streak of losing six consecutive road series.

Phillies 6 Mariners 0

  • The Phillies snapped their six-game losing streak thanks to Zack Wheeler’s eight shutout innings and nine strikeouts. Kyle Schwarber led off the game with a home run before Stott, Harper, and Bohm joined him with homers of their own. Seattle won the series despite the loss and remains a game ahead of the Astros in the AL West.

Padres 10 Rockies 2

  • San Diego won the series against Colorado for the first time in three tries this season after the Padres offense hit three homers. The Padres are a half-game back of the Braves for the top spot in the NL wildcard race.

Cubs 6 Cardinals 2

  • Chicago took three of four against their rival and won the series. Justin Steele allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six in his six and two-thirds outing. The Cubs collected 11 hits to get past the Cardinals on Sunday Night Baseball.
