Chicago ended its 21-game losing streak, which tied the AL record. Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give the White Sox the lead, and the team did not give it up.
Reds 8 Marlins 2
Elly De La Cruz scored twice and drove two in on another 4-for-5 night to help Cincinnati win three of four. Nick Lodolo struck out seven and allowed two runs in his six innings of work.
Nationals 11 Giants 5
Nationals rookie James Wood homered, tripled, and crossed home four times to help Washington complete the comeback after trailing 4-0. Three Washington relieves allowed just one hit and gave the Nats their third win in the last four.
Blue Jays 5 Orioles 2
The Blue Jays snapped their three-game losing streak after Alejandro Kirk gave them the lead on a three-run homer in the sixth. Chris Bassitt struck out a season-high nine in seven innings. The Orioles dropped to a half-game behind the Yankees in the AL East for the first time since June 26.
Brewers 10 Braves 0
Milwaukee blanked the Braves to hand them their third straight loss. Colin Rea pitched seven dominant innings and struck out a season-high nine to grab his 10th win of the season. Willy Adames led the charge on offense for the Brewers, hitting a pair of two-run homers. Atlanta dropped to the last wildcard spot in the NL, just one game above the Mets.
Cardinals 4 Rays 3
Victor Scott and Tommy Pham both hit two-run homers in the second inning to give St. Louis the lead and come away with the win. The Cardinals are three games behind the Braves for a wildcard sport despite starting August 2-4.
Astros 4 Rangers 2
Framber Valdez took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before Corey Seager hit his fifth home run in five games. Houston stalled their three-game skid after Yordan Alveraz hit a two-run home run at the top of the ninth. The Astros, currently out of a wildcard spot, are one game behind the Mariners for the NL West lead.
Cubs 7 Twins 3
Shota Imanaga retired the first ten batters he faced and shut down the Twins offense. He tied his career high with ten strikeouts and allowed two runs in seven innings of work. Issac Paredes’s first home run in Chicago gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead in the first.
Red Sox 6 Royals 5
The Red Sox took the second game of the series against Kansas City, who they trail by a half-game for the third wildcard spot in the AL. Dominic Smith scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to give Boston the lead before Masataka Yoshida singled in two more in what would be the winning runs.
Rockies 6 Mets 3
Colorado took the lead on a Jake Cave two-run homer in the fourth inning and did not surrender it to take game one against the Mets. New York trails the Braves by one game for the last wildcard spot.
Padres 6 Pirates 0
The Padres moved into the top spot in the NL wildcard race after winning their 12th game in the last 14. San Diego used six pitchers to shut down the Pirates after Dylan Cease pitched one inning before the three-hour rain delay.
Tigers 4 Mariners 2
Parker Meadows homered and drove in two runs to lead the Detroit offense to a victory in Seattle. The Mariners remain a half game above the Astros for first place in the AL West.
Phillies 6 Dodgers 2
Christopher Sanchez pitched six innings and allowed one run and the Phillies ended the Dodgers three-game winning streak. Philadelphia clinched the season series over the Dodgers 4-1 going into the final game the two will play before the end of the season.
