The White Sox are saying their prayers and doubling down on the baseball fandom of Pope Leo.
Robert Prevost, known as Father Bob when he attended Game 1 of the 2005 World Series, will be immortalized in a new graphic installation at Rate Field.
Artwork features Pope Leo waving and an image of him at that game 20 years ago in Section 140, Row 19, Seat 2.
The White Sox also said they plan on commemorating the seat where he sat.
“When people come into the ballpark, it’s an interesting piece of our history, and they’re going to want to see it,” said Brooks Boyer, the chief executive and marketing officer for the White Sox. “So we’re going to be able to put something on that seat.”
The Archdiocese of Chicago announced it will host a special celebratory mass on June 14 in honor of Pope Leo. The event is open to the public.
“Pope Leo XIV’s message of peace, unity, and the key to a meaningful life have touched hearts across the globe,” the Archdiocese said. “This celebration is an extraordinary opportunity for people from the city and beyond to come together in shared pride for one of our own.”
