The Florida State Seminoles’ run in the ACC Tournament in Durham, N.C., came to an end when they lost to the North Carolina Tar Heels 7-5.
Despite the defeat, the Seminoles found out at Durham Bulls Athletic Park that they have a player with a bright future on their hands.
Myles Bailey, a freshman first baseman from Tallahassee, Fla., went 5-for-8 at the plate with three home runs and five RBI during Florida State’s conference tournament run.
In the Seminoles’ previous game against Duke, Bailey hit two long balls. His second one of the game was 469 feet and had an exit velocity of 118 miles per hour.
The two home runs and four RBI Bailey had against Duke were big in helping Florida State defeat the Blue Devils, 14-7.
The freshman star hit another big home run against North Carolina to tie the game up at 1-1 in the fourth inning.
Florida State head coach Link Jarrett commented on Bailey’s absurd power after the loss against the Tar Heels.
The special part of this home run was that it was a ball down in the zone, which made the freshman hit it off the end of his bat. Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise commented on this after the game against the Tar Heels.
“I mean, today the homer he hit, he used to never let go of his top hand in a swing ever,” Lodise said. “And to see him do that now and stay through a change-up like that, and he’s so strong that he can hit pitches one-handed and hit them out. So, he’s just maturing really and just becoming a great player, and this is only his first year. He’s going to be an amazing hitter.”
Florida State head coach Link Jarrett was also impressed by Bailey’s power and discussed his progression throughout the 2025 college baseball season.
“There were times in the fall where he was not aggressive enough,” Jarrett said. “And I remember talking to him, if you don’t go up there and take some hacks, there is not going to be a lot that happens for you, big guy. So, we almost had to create a little bit more aggression… And he’s a good athlete, and he’s really learned how to play first base. That’s hidden sometimes because he makes it look easy over there, but that step forward has been just as enjoyable for me as the offensive stuff.”
The freshman year Bailey has put together has been exceptional. He has a .316 batting average, a .422 on-base percentage, 14 home runs, and 45 RBIs.
As Jarrett stated, he has also been a great defender at first base, with a .989 fielding percentage.
The season he had was enough to earn him a spot on the 2025 All-ACC Freshman team.
The future is bright for Bailey in Tallahassee, Fla. College baseball fans must keep a tab on him as his career at Florida State progresses.
