Sunday’s Winter Ball Playoff Results

Aguilas Cibaenas (10-7) 4, Leones del Escogido (12-5) 1 – The Aguilas Cibaenas survived to face the Toros del Este in a replay of Friday’s annulled game on Monday night in La Romana. World Baseball Network’s Julian Guilarte has the details on last night’s game here.
On Monday morning, the league confirmed that Monday’s game will be a replay of Friday’s game, the result of which, a 6-2 Aguilas Cibaenas win, was annulled following a protest by the Toros del Este. If the Aguilas win tonight’s game, the Toros and Aguilas will be tied for second in the round robin, and will play a tiebreaker game on Tuesday at Estadio Francisco Micheli,the home park of the Toros, who have already won the head-to-head series in the round robin by going 4-1 against the Aguilas to this point.

Leones del Ponce 7, Cangrejeros de Santurce 0 – World Baseball Network’s Conor Liguori has a recap of Game 5 of the LBPRC’s championship series here. The Leones stayed alive with the win, but still need to win four straight to take the title and go to the Caribbean Series.

Aguilas del Zulia (6-5) 4, Cardenales de Lara (6-4) 3 – Arturo Nieto‘s ninth-inning single scored Jaison Chourio with the go-ahead run for Zulia, which is now one game back of Anzoategui for the lead in the round robin. Andres Chapparo hit his sixth homer of the playoffs for Zulia, a three-run shot that tied the game in the top of the sixth.
Caribes de Anzoategui (7-4) 8, Bravos de Margarita (3-7) 4 – Of Anzoategui’s eight runs in their seventh win of the round robin, six came on RBI singles from five different players, with Diego Infante hitting an RBI single in the second to score Herlis Rodriguez and another in the three-run sixth to score Balbino Fuenmayor. Fuenmayor, Rodriguez, Romer Cuadrado, and Antonio Pinero had the other RBI singles for the Caribes, while Aldrem Corredor and Piniero each hit solo homers.
