Sunday’s Winter Ball Playoff Results
Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico
Charros de Jalisco 8, Tomateros de Culiacan 6 – Lorenzo Bundy’s Tomateros de Culiacan erased an early five-run Charros lead with a six-run top of the second, but ultimately, the Charros pulled ahead and completed the four-game sweep of the Tomateros to claim their second consecutive title in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico.

In the bottom of the second, the Charros torched Culiacan starter Aldo Montes for five runs. The big inning started with an RBI single by Reynaldo Rodriguez that scored Connor Hollis, and then two batters later, Alejandro Osuna singled to left to bring in another. Michael Wielansky drove Osuna home with a single of his own, and then Julian Ornelas homered to give Jalisco a 5-0 lead.
That lead, though, was short-lived, as the Tomateros responded in the top of the third, with Allen Cordoba hitting a bases-loaded, three-run double and Orlando Martinez hitting a three-run homer to give the Tomateros a 6-5 lead and end Jalisco starter Luis Ivan Rodriguez‘ evening.
With Rodriguez off the mound, the Charros’ bullpen dominated the remaining 7 2/3 innings, with five pitchers combining to allow just four hits and two walks, holding the Tomateros scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Jalisco tied the game in the sixth when Culiacan’s Sasagi Sanchez plunked Julian Ornelas with the bases loaded, sending Santiago Chavez home. Mateo Gil followed with a ground out to first base that scored Osuna for a 7-6 lead, and a bases-loaded walk to Bligh Madris in the bottom of the eighth gave the Charros insurance.
With the sweep, the Charros claimed their fourth LAMP title since the franchise started in 2014 and their second straight title under manager Benji Gil.

The MVP of the championship series was the Charros’ Julián Ornelas, who hit two home runs, drove in six runs and batted .400 over the four-game series.
The next stop for Gil and the Charros is the Caribbean Series, though they won’t have to travel, as their home ballpark, Estadio Panamericano, will be hosting the event.
In 2025, Gil and the Charros topped the Tomateros in the LAMP final and ran all the way to the Caribbean Series championship game, falling 1-0 to the Dominican Republic’s Leones del Escogido.
Starting Sunday, they’ll have the opportunity to again play for winter baseball’s biggest prize, this time on their home field.

Toros del Este 3, Leones del Escogido 2 – Pitching led the way in the 3-2 win for the Toros del Este on Jan. 25 in Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal. The game, previously scheduled for Jan. 23 and then rescheduled for Jan. 24, was rained out twice, perhaps the Toros del Este the time they needed to regroup.

Navegantes del Magallanes (10-6) 3, Bravos de Margarita (4-11) 2 – The Navegantes del Magallanes claimed the second berth in the LVBP championship series with a 2-1 win over the Bravos de Margarita Sunday. Margarita took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on a triple from Ramon Flores that sent Gorkys Hernandez and Carlos Perez in to score. The Navegantes battled back in the sixth, getting a run on a single by Luis Sardinas that scored Rougned Odor, then tying the game in the seventh on a single by Carlos Sepulveda that scored Tucupita Marcano. A bases-loaded walk to Odor in the seventh sent Wilfredo Tovar in with the go-ahead run. The Navegantes will face the Caribes de Anzoategui in the LVBP championship, with the winner going on to play in the Serie de Las Americas.
Cardenales de Lara (9-7) 3, Aguilas del Zulia (7-9) 1 – The Cardenales de Lara did what they needed to do, winning the final game of the round robin to get to 9-7, but they needed the Navegantes to lose to the Bravos de Margarita to force a tiebreaker game to try and get the final berth in the championship series. Getting all their offense in the first, the Cardenales got RBI singles from Ildemaro Vargas, Danry Vasquez, and Yadir Drake to take a 3-0 lead and cruised behind 5 1/3 scoreless innings from Cesar Valdez, who allowed eight hits but only one unearned run and struck out seven.
