Friday’s Winter Ball Playoff Results
Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico
Charros de Jalisco 3, Aguilas de Mexicali 2 – Tirso Ornelas doubled home Mateo Gil in the eighth inning to give the Charros a 3-2 lead, and relievers Gerardo Reyes and Trevor Clifton kept the Aguilas off the board in the eighth and ninth as the Charros took Game 5 and the series, earning a berth at the Caribbean Series for the second consecutive year. David Reyes allowed two runs, one of them earned, on seven hits over seven innings for Mexicali, dueling with Jalisco’s Manny Banuelos, who threw six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Jalisco advances to the LAMP championship series, where they will face the Tomateros de Culiacan.

Aguilas Cibaenas (10-7) 6, Toros del Este (10-7) 2 – Geraldo Perdomo had an RBI single in the five-run seventh for the Aguilas that scored Steward Berroa with the go-ahead run and later drew a bases-loaded walk to add insurance as the Aguilas survived to play another day for a chance at a berth in the LIDOM finals. Starter Odrisamer Despaigne threw five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and six Aguilas relievers stifled the Toros over the four final innings.
Leones del Escogido (12-5) 7, Gigantes del Cibao (2-15) 4 – Erik Gonzalez and Jorge Mateo each drove in two runs, and Yamaico Navarro hit a solo homer for the Leones, who won their 12th game of the round robin.

Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional
Aguilas del Zulia (5-4) 8, Caribes de Anzoategui (5-4) 5 – Andres Chapparo hit his fourth homer of the playoffs, a two-run shot in the fifth, Jose Pirela hit a two-run shot of his own, and Brainer Bonaci hit a solo homer as the Aguilas soared to their fifth win. Five Zulia relievers combined to allow one run on three hits over the final 5 1/3 innings, the only blemish a solo homer by Hernan Perez in the fifth. Aldrem Corredor had a two-run homer for the Caribes, who are tied with Zulia atop the round robin standings.
Bravos de Margarita (3-6) 4, Navegantes del Magallanes (3-6) 0 – Felix Doubront threw five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out two, and Jose Sanchez hit a three-run homer in the fourth for the Bravos, who earned their third win of the 16-game round robin. Wilson Garcia added an RBI single in the fourth that scored Gorkys Hernandez for Margarita.
