Saturday’s Winter Ball Playoff Results
Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico
Tomateros de Culiacan at Charros de Jalisco – In September, Lorenzo Bundy and the Diablos Rojos del Mexico swept the Charros de Jalisco for the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol title. Now Benji Gil’s club is one win away from sweeping Bundy and the Tomateros de Culiacan in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico final.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the first, Connor Hollis hit a grand slam to give the Charros all the offense they’d need, though they’d add runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh. Luis Ivan Rodriguez threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings for Jalisco, allowing seven hits, striking out three and walking none before handing the ball off to the bullpen. Four Charros relievers combined to allow two hits and a walk over the final 3 2/3 innings to put the Charros one win away from their second consecutive LAMP title.
Bligh Madris and Mateo Gil each had RBI singles for the Charros.
Fernando Villegas had two hits for the Tomateros in the loss.

Bravos de Margarita (4-11) 14, Caribes de Anzoategui (10-6) 12 – What’s the opposite of a pitcher’s duel?
After one inning, the Bravos de Margarita found themselves trailing 10-0, only to come all the way back and erase the deficit with a seven-run seventh inning, beating the Caribes de Anzoategui 14-12.
Manuel Melendez hit a three-run homer in the first, and Diego Guzman clubbed a two-run shot in Margarita’s big inning, with Guzman hitting a solo shot in the fifth that gave Margarita an 11-3 lead.
But the Bravos got four in the sixth, including a three-run homer from Major League veteran Alexi Amarista, and then scored seven in the seventh, with Jose Sanchez hitting a three-run homer and Jason Lopez hitting a grand slam to put Margarita ahead for good.
Navegantes del Magallanes (9-6) 8, Cardenales de Lara (8-7) 5 (11 Innings) – The Navegantes scored three runs in the top of the 11th, getting a two-run homer from Renato Nunez and a solo homer from Tucupita Marcano to take a 0ne-game lead over the Cardenales with one game to play in the round robin.
Leandro Cedeno got Magallanes on the board with a two-run homer in the fourth and went 2-for-5 with four RBIs, adding a two-run single in the sixth.
Magallanes plays Margarita tonight, while the Cardenales have a must-win game against the Aguilas del Zulia to keep their hopes of a championship series berth alive.

Leones del Escogido at Toros del Este – Game 3, originally scheduled for Friday night, was rained out and rescheduled for Saturday night, but heavy rain on Saturday left the field at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal too wet to play, so Game 3 has again been rescheduled for Sunday. The Leones del Escogido lead the series two games to none.
