World Baseball Classic Qualifiers: The Brotherly Love for South Africa

Despite South Africa having a tough go at it in the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in Taipei, an incredible story panned out last night in their 9-1 loss against Chinese Taipei.

The South African team got on the board via an RBI knock from designated hitter Brandon Smith. The hit scored his brother Tyler Smith, who is playing shortstop for South Africa.

Tyler Smith not only had the only run in the game but also had a good game hitting the baseball against Chinese Taipei. He tallied two knocks in three at-bats.

It is safe to say yesterday was a big day for the Smith family in the Taipei Dome.

South Africa is 0-2 in the WBC Qualifiers in Taiwan. Their next game is against Spain on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 p.m. E.T.

Spain is coming off an extra-innings loss against Nicaragua and is looking for a bounce-back game.

All WBC Qualifier games will be streamed live on the World Baseball Classic website, Facebook page, MLB.TV, and . Coverage will continue through the second qualifier’s final game in Tucson, Arizona, on March 6.
