Thirty-three of the nation’s top young baseball talents have gathered at Surfers Paradise Baseball Club for a six-day selection camp as they chase a place on Australia’s roster for the upcoming 2015 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

From August 17-23, players will undergo rigorous training and evaluation under the watchful eyes of national selectors, with only 20 earning a coveted spot on the final roster. The camp, proudly supported by Invest Gold Coast, is a crucial step in preparing Team Australia for one of the most prestigious international tournaments in junior baseball.

The WBSC U-18 World Cup, set for September 5-14 in Okinawa, Japan, has long been a showcase for future Major League Baseball stars, with Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, and Francisco Lindor among the alumni who once competed at this level.

Patrolling the fields on the Gold Coast, the 33 hopefuls represent every corner of Australia’s baseball community, each driven by the opportunity to wear the green and gold on the global stage. Following the camp, selectors will announce the final 20-man squad on August 24, with the team scheduled to depart for Japan on August 31.

For the young athletes, the week is not only about skill and performance but also about embodying the discipline, teamwork, and passion that define Australian baseball on the international stage.
