On Saturday, November 16, a different team will be taking the field at the friendly confines. The Northwestern Wildcats will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first football game played at Wrigley Field since 2010.
In 2021, the Wildcats faced off against the Purdue Boilermakers on November 20, marking 11 years since the last football game at Wrigley Field. This season, Wrigley Field will host two college football games:
– The Wildcats vs. the Buckeyes on Saturday
– The Wildcats vs the Illini on November 30
The Wildcats are currently replacing their home stadium, Ryan Field, with a new facility set to open in 2026. Until then, they have been using Northwestern Medicine Field and Wrigley Field as their home venues.
The Wildcats are 4-5 on the season while the Buckeyes are 8-1 looking to make the College Football Playoff. Wrigley Field is one of the most unique atmospheres in Major League Baseball, and to see it host a college football game should be a special experience. November 20 will mark exactly 14 years since the historic stadium hosted a football matchup after a 40-year gap. Before the Wildcats game against the Boilermakers in 2021, the last football game played at the Friendly Confines was in. 1970, when the Chicago Bears hosted the Green Bay Packers.
The home of the Chicago Cubs will be filled with Wildcats fans, as it is just a short 30-minute drive from the campus to the historic field.
