Wrigley Field, the historic ballpark home to Chicago Cubs baseball, is set to host the first-ever Chicago HBCU Classic.
On May 2, the Prairie View A&M Panthers and Alabama A&M Bulldogs will play each other in the matchup.
The game itself will take place after the conclusion of the Cubs game at Wrigley Field that day. Chicago will face off against the Arizona Diamondbacks that day with the first pitch at 2:20 p.m. EST.
Mayor Johnson’s thoughts on the historic HBCU game
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson commented on the upcoming collegiate game in a press release from WGN TV.
“The first-ever HBCU game at Wrigley Field is a historic milestone for Chicago and for the future of baseball,” said Johnson. “Wrigley Field is the only ballpark where Jackie Robinson played that still stands today, making it a powerful place to write the next chapter of Black baseball history. This event honors the legacy of African Americans in the sport while inspiring young people across our city to see themselves in baseball, in higher education, and in leadership.”
Prairie View A&M and Alabama A&M’s 2026 seasons so far
In 2026, the Prairie View A&M Panthers have a 3-4 overall record. After winning their first three games of the season, they are currently riding a four-game losing streak.
Their latest loss was against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Tuesday, February 24.
The Alabama A&M Bulldogs have a 2-6 overall record this season. Their two wins this season have come against the New Orleans Privateers and the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks.
The Bulldogs lost their latest game against the Illinois State Redbirds on February 25.

Prairie View A&M’s next game is against the New Mexico State Aggies on Friday, February 27. The Panthers will travel to Las Cruces and play the Aggies in a three-game series at Presley Askew Stadium. The first pitch for Friday’s game is at 8 p.m. EST.
Alabama A&M’s next game is against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Friday, February 27.
The game is at Bush Stadium in Cookeville, Tenn., and is part of the Holiday Inn Classic. The first pitch is at noon EST.
