Yankees Call Up Top Prospect Jasson Domínguez

The New York Yankees announced they are calling up top prospect Jasson Domínguez, as officially reported by the Yankees on X. This will be Domínguez’s second stint in the Major Leagues this season after being called up as the 27th man in the Little League Classic game between the Yankees and Detroit Tigers.

Fittingly nicknamed “The Martian,” Domínguez’s potential is out of this world. The 21-year-old switch-hitting outfielder was born in Esperanza, Dominican Republic. Built very solidly and projecting as a five-tool player, Domínguez was ranked the top player in the 2019-2020 MLB international signing class. Domínguez eventually signed with the Yankees in July 2019 for a franchise-record 5.1 million dollar signing bonus at just 16 years old.

Domínguez did not play in the 2020 COVID season but quickly made headlines in the Yankees’ farm system. He climbed his way up to Triple-A in 2023, and by the end of the 2023 season, the Yankees called him up in September as they were already eliminated. Domínguez had a .229 batting average in eight games with four home runs and seven RBIs.

Many speculated this call-up as the Yankees have been moving around roster spots in recent days. The Yankees have expressed hesitance in calling Domínguez up so as not to waste his rookie eligibility. However, in the 19 games remaining in the regular season, if he averages five at-bats per game, he would still be under the 130 at-bats in the majors required to keep rookie status.

Domínguez could boost the Yankees’ World Series hopes. With both Stanton and Verdugo struggling and the Yankees in a tight race with the Baltimore Orioles for the AL East division title, the Martian’s power and youth could be just the spark the team in the Bronx needs to keep on burning.
