Loáisiga signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Yankees in the offseason, but his deal has a club option for the same salary for the 2026 season. He noted that the Yankees’ decision on his option will play a factor in his representation of Nicaragua. He also noted that he would have to be healthy. If the Yankees pick up his option, it is realistic to think he would need permission from the team.
Loáisiga has a 3.52 ERA this season. He has a 3.44 ERA in his career. In the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he pitched in two games and gave up three earned runs in two innings of work.
Nicaragua qualified for the 2026 World Baseball Classic by going 3-0 in the World Baseball Classic qualifiers in February.
