The New York Yankees’ top prospect infielder, George Lombard Jr., is extremely advanced for being just 19 years old. He is the youngest player in Double-A this season with the Yankees’ affiliate, the Somerset Patriots. He is very mature for his age, and the moment doesn’t seem too big for him.
Lombard Jr. was promoted on May 6, 2025, from the Yankees’ High-A affiliate, the Hudson Valley Renegades. Through 11 games with the Patriots, he has more walks than strikeouts at a 10-to-9 ratio in 33 at-bats. Also has three stolen bases and three RBI.
Moreover, Lombard Jr. caught up with the media before their game against the Boston Red Sox Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, on May 17.
He talked about the influence of his father, George Lombard Sr., on his career.
“Growing up around the game, I always knew that I loved baseball,” Lombard Jr. told World Baseball Network. “I always knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was in my blood to love baseball… he’s been super influential in my life on and off the field. I’m grateful for it.”
Furthermore, Lombard Jr. discussed some things that have stood out to him during his time in the Yankees organization from 2023 to now.
“From day one, getting drafted by a franchise that’s so iconic as the Yankees. Since I’ve gotten into the organization, everyone has treated me great. Player development has been all I can ask for, and I’m excited to keep it going.”
