Just a week after representing Cuba at the Premier12, Yoan Moncada has agreed to join the Senadores de San Juan in Liga de Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente (LBPRC). According to Francys Romero, Moncada’s stint in Puerto Rico won’t be long, as he is looking to sign with an MLB team.

Moncada now joins fellow Cuban slugger Jose Abreu, who has been playing well in hopes of making a comeback to MLB in 2025. In just six games, Abreu has crushed four home runs, drove in ten RBIs, and carried a .269 average. After just playing in 12 MLB games last season, Moncada will look to join Abreu in the Senadores lineup.

The 29-year-old infielder represented Cuba during Premier12 and played with Cuba alongside Luis Robert during the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Moncada played in four games during Premier12, only hitting 2-14, with one RBI, and struck out six times. Against Korea, Moncada exited the game after being hit by a pitch on his right hand. Luckily, X-rays came back negative, so he was available to pinch-hit against Japan, where he came through netting an RBI single.

It will be interesting to see how many games Moncada plays in Puerto Rico alongside Jose Abreu. Both players and former White Sox teammates hope to land MLB deals. According to Francys Romero, more than five teams have shown interest in Moncada, including the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Mariners.

The Senadores de San Juan are currently in second place in LPBRC at 4-2. The Indios de Mayaguez are in first with a 5-1 record. With the addition of Moncada, the Senadores could sneak into first place, depending on how long he will stay with the organization.
