The 2026 NCAA Tournament begins on Friday, May 29. Here is World Baseball Network’s preview of the 2026 Tuscaloosa regional.
Tuscaloosa Regional – Sewell-Thomas Stadium
No. 1 – Alabama Crimson Tide (37-19, 18-12 SEC) – Number Seven National Season
The Alabama Crimson Tide has put together its best season in year three under Rob Vaughn. A great season for Alabama earned them a top-eight national seed, which is new territory for them. Alabama went on the road for regionals in Vaughn’s first two seasons as the head coach in Tuscaloosa.
Key hitters for the Crimson Tide this season have included Brady Neal and Bryce Fowler. Both players are batting north of .315 and have combined for 31 doubles and 78 RBIs.
The Alabama starting rotation has been rock solid in 2026. Tyler Fay and Myles Upchurch were two pitchers for the Crimson Tide who received all-conference honors. Fay was second-team All-SEC, and Upchurch was a part of the SEC’s All-Freshman team.
Upchurch has had a sensational freshman season with Alabama. In 64 2/3 innings of work, he has a 3.34 ERA with 68 strikeouts. He has allowed an opposing batting average of .195.
Alabama has not been to a super regional since 2023, despite four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Their combination of big-time hitters and a great pitching staff gives them the ability to have a big run in the NCAA Tournament this time around.
No. 2 – Oklahoma State Cowboys (37-20, 18-12 Big 12)
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are back in the NCAA Tournament for the 13th-straight season. Head coach Josh Holliday’s team had a strong end to the 2026 college baseball season, winning four straight series against Texas Tech, TCU, Arizona State, and Arizona.
Alex Conover and Kollin Ritchie both have batting averages north of .330 for the Cowboys. Ritchie is one of the best home run hitters in the country with 29 long balls this season.
In fact, Oklahoma State brings a lot of power within its lineup. The Cowboys have 137 home runs as a team this season.
Ethan Lund has been a strikeout machine within Oklahoma State’s pitching staff. In 77 innings, he has a 5.26 ERA with 127 strikeouts this season. He is the anchor to the Cowboys’ pitching staff.
No. 3 – USC Upstate Spartans (33-28, 13-11 Big South)
The USC Upstate Spartans are back in the NCAA Tournament after winning back-to-back Big South championships. The Spartans come into the Tuscaloosa regional red hot. They are winners in 10 of their last 11 games.
Henry Zenor has been the Spartans’ best player this season and is someone opposing teams have to circle on lineup cards. He has a .346 batting average with 18 doubles, eight home runs, and 51 RBIs.
No. 4 – Alabama State Hornets (34-21, 20-10 SWAC)
The Alabama State Hornets won the 2026 SWAC Tournament title after an 8-6 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers. With a 20-10 conference record, the Hornets finished in fourth place in the SWAC as well.
