The 3 Torneo Los Mejores event was finalized on short notice on July 31, 2023, featuring club teams participating from professional leagues in Central America in a series of exhibition games.
The event will be held at Estadio Chochi Sosa in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, from August 1-3.
The three teams will be the Leones de León from Nicaragua’s Liga de Beisbol Profesional Nacional and German Pomares Ordonez leagues; the host team, the Bravos de Tegucigalpa from the Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Mayor de Honduras; and El Salvador, which will be represented by a team composed of players from their Liga Nacional de Béisbol.
The three teams held a press conference on Monday in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with the managers of each team along with the three players prior to the start of the event. The press conference was viewable on the social media pages of the Federación Salvadoreña de Béisbol.
The Confederación del Norte y CentroAmérica de Béisbol, Confederación Deportiva Autónoma de Honduras, Federación Nicaragüense de Beisbol Asociado, Comisión Nacional de Deportes Educación Física y Recreación, and Federación Hondureña de Béisbol are also the organizers for the event.
The Confederación del Norte y CentroAmérica de Béisbol is a sector under the World Baseball Softball Confederation Americas umbrella, along with the Confederación Panamericana de Béisbol, Campeonato Sudamericano de Béisbol, and Confederación del Caribe de Béisbol.
The Leones de Leon are one of the most historic franchises in Nicaragua, having won the second-most championship titles in Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Superior de Nicaragua German Pomares Ordonez with 13, plus another seven championships in Liga de Béisbol Profesional Nacional, which plays during the winter, and a title at the 2019 Latin American Series.
El Salvador will bring a similar roster to their 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games team, and Jorge Luis Avellán is returning to the coaching staff as well.
Costa Rica was originally supposed to be in the Los Mejores event, but opted out for financial reasons.
The Los Mejores will be the first regional club event that the Confederación del Norte y CentroAmérica de Béisbol has hosted.
All of the 3 Torneo Los Mejores games will be streamed on Tu Guia Deportiva Facebook page.
