On Monday, June 15, Adrian Rodriguez made history at the 2026 College World Series during a 14-2 win for the Texas Longhorns over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The shortstop became the third player to hit for the cycle in the College World Series. He joined Minnesota’s Jim Kindall and Tennessee’s Christian Moore, who both hit for the cycle at the event in 1956 and 2024, respectively.
Rodriguez earned the cycle in the seventh inning. After hitting a home run in the sixth inning, officials changed a single and a two-base error from earlier in the game to a triple. Thus, history was made.
The Texas shortstop talked about how he found out about the cycle.
“Ruger [Riojas] actually came up to me later in the game and told me that they took the error off the board,” Rodriguez said. “So, it was kind of surreal. Because I remember C-Mo doing it with Tennessee when I was in high school. It’s kind of crazy that that’s all coming back when we’re here. So it’s just a crazy moment.”
Rodriguez with a five-hit game for the Longhorns, continues big-time NCAA Tournament
In total, Rodriguez had five hits on Monday against the Crimson Tide, making it the first five-hit game of his collegiate career. He finished with a single, two doubles, a triple, and a home run.
He also had seven RBIs, making him the seventh player to reach that total in a College World Series game. The last person to have seven RBIs in Omaha was current Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Weatburg in 2018 with Mississippi State.
Rodriguez continues to look like the best player in the 2026 NCAA Tournament with 18 hits, seven doubles, and 16 RBIs in seven games.
Up next for Texas
The Texas Longhorns remain alive in the College World Series with their win over Alabama. Their next game is on Tuesday, June 16, against the Georgia Bulldogs. That game at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha is at 8 p.m. ET, and the game is on ESPN.
