OMAHA, Neb. – On Friday, June 12, the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 6-2 in the 2026 College World Series. Freshman right-handed pitcher Caden Glauber delivered and closed out the game for the Tar Heels
Glauber earns 11th win in a historic freshman season
Glauber entered the game for North Carolina’s starting pitcher, Jason DeCaro, in the seventh inning. DeCaro exited the game after leaving Ole Miss’s Dom Decker on at second base.
In Glauber’s first at-bat, he gave up a two-out base hit to Judd Utermark, which scored Decker from second base. This gave the Rebels a 2-1 lead. Glauber finished that inning by striking out Will Furniss.
The lead for Ole Miss did not last long; North Carolina picked up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it a 3-2 game.
Glauber proceeded to close out the remainder of the game with confidence, retiring five of Ole Miss’s final seven hitters. The freshman’s final stat line included no runs allowed and two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings of work.
It moved his record this season to 11-0, continuing a dominant run for the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Year.
Hynek and Forbes talk about Glauber and his big game
North Carolina catcher Colin Hynek provided a unique perspective on what he told Glauber during his big outing in the College World Series against Ole Miss.
Hynek had a simple yet uplifting message for the North Carolina freshman phenom after Utermark’s RBI knock.
“I just told him ‘good job on getting us back in the dugout,'” Hynek recalled.
The catcher continuously had messages for Glauber throughout the late innings of the College World Series game against the Rebels.
“Heading into the ninth inning, I just told him to be himself,” said Hynek. “He is one of the best pitchers in the country. So, there is no reason not to act like it for him.”
North Carolina head coach Scott Forbes also talked about Glauber’s big outing in the College World Series.
“He is supposed to be graduating from high school right now,” Forbes said. “In a perfect world, we were going to go DeCaro and Glauber on the mound, and it worked out for us.”

The North Carolina Tar Heels will play the West Virginia Mountaineers in the winner’s game on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. The College World Series game at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha will be on ESPN.
